The Peshtigo Pines Treehouse

This isn't a normal stay. The Peshtigo Pines Treehouse is a one-of-a-kind retreat suspended 15+ feet above Peshtigo Lake, where you're cocooned by towering pines with nothing but the sounds of the forest for miles.

The space sleeps five comfortably: a soaring loft bedroom overlooks the canopy, a full bathroom means no compromises on comfort, and a living area with floor to ceiling windows makes you feel like you're floating in the trees. Sit by the fire pit while gazing into the treetops, watch the sun go down from the deck, and fall asleep under the stars in the loft.

It's intimate, exhilarating, and unforgettable. Perfect for couples seeking solitude, small families wanting something different, or anyone ready to truly disconnect.

Things To Do

Discover the Beauty of Crandon's Northwoods

❋ Off Road Exploration

The Crandon area is crisscrossed with some of the best ATV and snowmobile trails in Wisconsin. Whether you're a seasoned rider or renting for the first time, Northwoods Power Sports is your go-to shop. Located right in town, they rent ATVs and snowmobiles by the day or week and can point you toward trails that match your experience level. Summer trails offer scenic forest routes and lake views; winter trails are groomed and perfect for snowmobilers seeking pristine powder. Plan for 2–4 hours per excursion, and bring water and snacks.

❋ On The Water

Peshtigo Lake is closest to the Treehouse and offers calm waters ideal for kayaking—early morning paddles are magical, with mist rising off the water and birds just waking up. Lake Lucerne is known among locals for excellent walleye and pike fishing; guides are available if you want local expertise. Lake Metonga, slightly quieter and more family-oriented, has sandy swimming areas and is perfect for lazy afternoons. All three have public boat launches.

❋ Step Back in Time

Camp 5 Museum is a fully restored logging camp from the 1880s–1930s. The highlight is the scenic steam train ride—a genuine historic locomotive pulling vintage coaches through the forest. It's surprisingly moving; you'll understand why this landscape mattered to the people who lived here. The museum grounds include a general store, bunkhouses, and a mess hall. Expect to spend 2–3 hours here. Best visited mid-week to avoid crowds; open seasonally (May through October, weekends year-round).

❋ Waterfalls and Hiking Trails

The Crandon area sits within one of Wisconsin's most pristine forest landscapes, surrounded by over 30 waterfalls within a 50-mile radius. Whether you're seeking an easy cascade accessible in minutes or a full-day adventure combining multiple falls, the region delivers. Bull Falls and the trio of Veteran's Falls, McClintock Falls, and Strong Falls are local favorites—all within easy drives and varying difficulty levels. Trails range from short accessible walks to moderate forest hikes through old-growth woodland. Fall brings cooler temperatures and fewer insects; spring offers higher water flow and rushing cascades. Sunrise hikes reward early risers with solitude; afternoon explorations reveal the forest at its liveliest. Download a trail app, bring a map, and discover why locals consider these falls and forest paths the heart of the Northwoods experience

Crandon International Raceway

Experience the world's premier short-course off-road racing at Crandon International Raceway. Every Labor Day weekend, more than 50,000 fans gather to watch championship drivers race at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour on the longest and fastest short course track in the nation. Whether you're catching the legendary Polaris Crandon World Championships or the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run, the energy is electric and the competition is fierce. Grass camping, on-site parking, and multiple viewing areas make it an unforgettable spectacle.

Everything is made in-house—no shortcuts, no frozen ingredients. Sides are simple and done well: coleslaw, baked beans, cornbread. Casual atmosphere (picnic tables, order at the counter), generous portions, fair prices. Expect waits on weekends—locals know this place.

❋ Charlie's Lake Metonga Resort

For dinner with a view, Charlie's Lake Metonga Resort sits on the shoreline at 4163 E Lakeview Street with stunning sunsets over the water. This is where Crandon comes to celebrate. The restaurant features a large dining room and bar, a full salad bar, and a menu that honors comfort classics with care. Friday nights bring the famous fish fry—fried fish with crispy breading and all the trimmings. Saturday is prime rib night. Every entrée comes with your choice of soup, the salad bar, and your choice of potato (baked, fries, or sweet potato fries). Beyond the classics, they serve broiled fish, wings, burgers, steaks, and homemade pizza. The service is attentive and warm, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the lake views are the perfect backdrop to a meal.

❋ Palubicki's Eats 'n' Treats

Since 2007, Palubicki's Eats 'n' Treats at 103 W Glen Street has been Crandon's go-to for soft-serve ice cream and classic American drive-in food. What makes Palubicki's special is their ice cream—over 60 flavors with the ability to create custom twist combinations. But this isn't just an ice cream stand. The menu includes burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, wraps, and fish—all made fresh. Like Yeti's, they offer carhop service, outdoor picnic seating, and a family-friendly atmosphere. The staff is known for their warmth and attention, and locals will tell you the burgers are excellent and the portions are generous. Palubicki's operates seasonally and fills up quickly, especially during peak hours and when the Crandon Raceway draws crowds. It's a family business that treats every customer like family.
